Whenever Israel was attacked by
mighty forces of Amalek or later, other enemies, ( for example Exodus 17:9,) God gave them
a supernatural victory. Whenever they cried out to God, to Him, He gave
them the victory if they relied on Him-- alone.
Israel realising that God was
fighting the battle for them, built an altar to Jehovah-Nissi:( The
Lord is my banner) Hear His words: ‘The Lord will fight
for you.’ ‘Be not afraid nor dismayed… for the battle is not
yours, but God’s.’ Don’t be discouraged into defeat, trying to win the battle in your own strength.
The only sort of spiritual
conflict that is ever won is the one God fights for you. He doesn’t expect
you to win the battle, only to surrender to Him and let Him win it for you!
‘What am I supposed to do?’ you already know. “Fight the good fight of
faith.’ Yours isn’t a battle of tiresome effort; it’s the battle of believing. ‘But
am I not to wrestle?’ Remembering two things: first, Jacob didn’t win by
wrestling, he won by being made too weak to continue wrestling, but he
didn’t give up. Paul, the Apostle said, ‘When I am weak, then am I
strong.’ Second, Jacob and Paul’s victory lay in their surrender.
Are you worn out from the battle?
Trust your God to prevail for
you: ‘the battle is not yours, but God’s.’
