When Desires become Rights

 

In many parts of the world, people are deeply and personally offended when they are told that their behaviour is immoral. Christians and the Church have often sought to communicate (not always well) God's standards of behaviour, yet others take this personally and act like Christians are robbing them of their rights.

The Bible is very clear in many areas about what is best for humanity and how people can flourish. Our problem is that people believe their desires are their rights. When we live with the assumption that a desire is a right, morality becomes a question of justice, not of behaviour.

The Bible wants the best for everyone and puts boundaries on behaviour for all of us. Your desires are not rights. They are choices we make daily, and at times, these desires need to be restrained.
