The Difference
The difference between males and females is primarily biological.
Males have XY chromosomes, while females have XX chromosomes. This genetic difference leads to the development of distinct primary reproductive organs and other sexual characteristics.
Typically, males have testes, penis and produce sperm, while females have ovaries, vagina and produce eggs. Additionally, males tend to have much higher testosterone levels, contributing to the development of masculine physical traits such as facial hair, chest hair, male musculature, and a deeper voice. Females, conversely, have much higher levels of oestrogen, which contributes to the development of feminine physical traits such as breasts, feminine musculature and a higher voice.
These fundamental biological differences between males and females are the foundation for the diverse range of other secondary differences between the sexes. According to the Head of the American Medical Association, there are about 6300 unique identifiers between the two sexes.
However, there is now a small range of gender identities and expressions- all social constructs- that currently exist in western society.
