It has been said that if you want the economy of a nation to decline or go into recession, start spreading doom and gloom. If that is true then by similar measure commence that kind of process on a product or organisation and their popularity can end.
Of course I am not advocating that to occur anywhere nor anytime soon. But I hastily add that some persons do that unwittingly. In a desire to explain some minor downturn or dip in the popularity or influence of a person, company or people group. a writer can contribute toward the joyless dive of something or somebeing who, while initially enjoying a crest of public popularity crashes like a foamy wave upon some deserted shore.
Hapless vital statistics are released into the Global Media space and widespread panic ensues, seemingly overnight.
Well, you may say, this may be an oversimplification, but stock market crashes historically demonstrate otherwise. Mob rule works similarly but violently unfortunately. One event triggers upscaling, another spirals down. So without any real evidence of the product's demise, saying so can sometimes cause a tailspin before the damage can be corrected.
As it was frequently 'advertised 'during the last World War, loose lips sink ships!
