Struggles and Scars.

I have a friend who has

struggled with depression many times in her life. Sometimes when she was very low, she resorted to cutting her arms. This is always an act of desperation. She has only shown a few people the results of this behaviour.

One of the first people she showed her scars to reached out and touched her arm. As she did, she said that she was not so much concerned about these scars, but rather the scars on the inside. What an insightful statement this is.

While the scars on my friend's arms are a demonstration of what happens when you feel desperate, the scars on the inside are what do the most damage - scars of emotional pain and distress that refuse to heal or mend.

Jesus said that He will heal us at every level. Jesus can heal us physically, but just as importantly, Jesus will heal the scars on the inside as well. The painful memories and experiences that wound you over and over again can be taken to Jesus who loves, cares and forgives.
