Total Lostness!

What then? Are we Jews any better off? No,not at all. For we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks are under sin,as it is written :

None is righteous, no not one;

No one understands;

No one seeks for God.

All have turned aside,together they have become worthless.

No one does good  

Not even one.

Their throat is an open grave 

They use their tongues to deceive.

The venom of asps is under their lips,

Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.

Their feet are swift to shed blood;

In their paths are ruin and misery and the way of peace they have not known,

There is no fear of God before their eyes. 

Romans: 3: 9- 20.

The Bible teaches that All mankind is totally depraved. This describes  the comprehensive impact of sin on human beings. 

Sin has corrupted every part of our nature.  It has darkened our minds. It has set ourselves at enmity with God. Our wills are against God. We rebelled. It is impossible for us to do good and what is pleasing  in the Lord's sight. We cannot save ourselves  because of our totally depraved nature. So it requires the sovereign grace of God for salvation. 

We are all sinners. 

Sinners can still love their families, love their friends and so forth.  From a human perspective,  we can still do some good. However, total depravity means that whatever good we do falls short of God's standards. 

Our only hope is to be restored to right relationship with God via faith in Christ. The core text is Romans 3: 9-20 for understanding this situation.
